Medical Sharps

Medical sharps should never be thrown directly into your trash.

The safest way to dispose of medical sharps, like needles, syringes, and lancets, is to put them in a sharps disposal container as soon as possible. This reduces the risk of cuts, punctures, and needle sticks from loose sharps. You can buy medical-grade sharps containers at pharmacies, or use a rigid, leak-proof, puncture-resistant container with a tight-fitting lid, like a bleach bottle, detergent bottle, or coffee can. If you use a household container, label it "SHARPS" in large letters on all sides to protect waste haulers.
