Adoptive applicants are required to attend 10 weeks of education classes to prepare them for adoptive parenthood. These classes help families to assess their skills, strengths and abilities as they decide on the type of child that will best fit into their family. The adoptive home study takes approximately six weeks, but depends upon your available time for interviews. There is no definite answer as to the exact timeframe that a child can be placed in your home. It could take only six to 10 months, or as long as a year. Once a child is placed in your home, the adoption cannot be finalized until the child has resided there for six months.
