The Clinton County Port Authority is special purpose government formed by the Clinton County Commissioners in 2004. A Port Authority structure is often used to operate transportation infrastructure and lead the way for economic development. Port Authorities can own land, operate shipping terminals, airports and railroads.
Governed by an all-volunteer board appointed by the Clinton County Commissioners, the Board members of the Clinton County Port Authority serve three-year terms.
In June of 2010, the Clinton County Port Authority was deeded the Wilmington Air Park from DHL. In total, approximately 1,500 acres were donated. Subsequently, the Clinton County Port Authority purchased available, adjacent land from DHL to bring the land total up to 1,900 acres surrounding the two-runway, fully functional airport.
Early in 2011, the Clinton County Port Authority initiated a short-term representation agreement with Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) for spaces at the Wilmington Air Park. The PDF below represents their first marketing piece generated in support of the Air Park.
Late in 2011, the Clinton County Port Authority – working with the Economic Task Force Redevelopment Subcommittee – completed a Redevelopment Study led by JLL and teams from Landrum & Brown, Unison Consulting, Woolpert and Vandercar to explore redevelopment options for the Air Park. This planning process involved regional and national research as well as local interaction to uncover the best markets for growth at the Air Park. This project was funded by the Ohio Department of Development and the US Economic Development Agency. An Executive Summary of the Study is available at www.wilmingtonairparkplan.com. For a copy of the full study, contact Beth Huber.
Also a joint effort of the Ohio Department of Development and the US Economic Agency, the Clinton County Port Authority and Clinton County were issued $1.3 million to fund a Revolving Loan Fund (RLF). The Clinton County Port Authority as lead agent in the project is currently in the process of developing the RLF guidelines. Eventually the funds will be available to support business growth in the County.
Regular meetings of the Clinton County Port Authority are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Air Park at 9 a.m. (unless otherwise publicized). Proper ID is required to gain access to the Air Park.
